Pond Pals

The good husband mysteriously got up early today and was gone by 8 am. He mumbled something about fish and I thought he was kidding and ignored him. But, low and behold, he came home with fish! What is up with getting fish? What is he going to do with these fish? Why wasn't I told about these fish plans? Come to find out, Southern States has a fishman that comes early in the morning maybe twice a month and sells all sorts of species. So, the good husband bought three different types of 'fishlings' and brought them home to the pond. I pitied the poor things getting jostled back and forth in the back of the truck. Thankfully it was a cool morning and the sun didn't stress them. Now we have catfish, crappie and bass . I just rolled my eyes and told him all he did was succeed at feeding the snapping turtle. He now has plans to sit near the pond with his shotgun...lovely! Can't wait to see that!

That is so cool! Your pond will feed critters from all over and the fish will be so fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.

GREAT JOB, Good Husband! Good luck with the snapping turtle too. Now I have a couple fishling questions - Why are they called Crappie?? Do they taste bad?? AND, if the bass are the "Large-mouth" variety...does that make them "Bitty-mouth" bass right now?? ROFLOL
I have really enjoyed reading your blog, and enjoying your farm. :)

How cool! I'm rooting for the fish! Can you feed the snapping turtle some cantaloupe or something? :) That is what the Kindergarte teacher used to feed her class pet turtle, hee hee!
When I was a kid, my dad caught live bass (on a pole) and brought them home in buckets of water for the pond we dug! They lived for a long time.

That is so neat! Stay away snapping turtle!
We put fish in our pond 8 yrs ago, the problem was, it wasn't deep enough so when the pond dried up for the first time in years, we had to rescue them all and put them in our horses water troughs. This is why we'd like to have our pond dug out deeper. I'd like to get some more fish for the pond! We also have bald eagles and blue heron that will feed on fish if the pond isn't deep enough, for the fish to escape!
